St. Leopold of Castelnuovo (1866-1942)

He was born in Castelnuovo (Yugoslavia) in 1866. He joined the Order of the Capuchins in 1884 and was ordained priest in 1890. He fervently desired the union of the Catholic Church’s separated oriental brothers. He spent most of his life in Padua as a loyal minster of the reconciliation sacrament, embracing and encouraging numerous penitents from all walks of life. He passed in Padua in 1942 and John Paul II canonized him on October 16, 1983 during the celebration of the bishops Synod on “Reconciliation”.
