He was born on March 25, 1979, in the community of La Granja, municipality of Huanímaro, in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. He is the fifth of the 11 children of the couple formed by Mr. Crispín Jaime and Mrs. Juvelina Martínez.

Last Wednesday, January 19, the Provincial Custody of Mexico and Texas of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin celebrated 75 years of continuous presence in Mexico. After nine days of making a historical and geographical tour of our current presences, we were able to reach the culmination of these days of virtual meeting, in which we were able to meet as brothers through social networks.

Dear Brothers, greetings to you!

Lately, there’ve been many occasions in which I find myself in front of a camera in order to reach out and be present to everyone. We met with the friars of America, with the friars from India, with the friars of Europe, with the Italian friars. In short, there were many occasions due to the pandemic that have forced us to stay put and reach out to each other only through these means. Although this is a more traditional occasion, it is always very important to be able to reach out and communicate with one another, and I now desire to wish everyone well for this approaching Christmas.

This year we are overjoyed to celebrate together 75 years of uninterrupted presence in Mexico. We remember that year of 1947 when we began this presence of which we are a part today. We do not forget that before other Capuchins set foot on Mexican soil.

With joy we have celebrated the Temporary Profession of our brother José Alfredo Mota, originally from the state of Veracruz. In a simple and meaningful celebration, Capuchin brothers, family and friends have been able to share this celebration.

Held at the “Villa Porciúncula” spirituality center, located in Tesistán, Jalisco, on January 25 of this year, the brothers from the different presences of the Custody of Mexico and Texas arrived to experience this meeting, which despite being short and limited by the reality of the pandemic, it was a totally significant meeting, especially because the new government of our custody has been elected. In an atmosphere of joy and fraternal encounter, the reports corresponding to the three-year period that are ending were presented.

We have joyfully started the Postulancy stage, with seven young people who, wishing to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, walk hand in hand with Francis of Assisi, shaping their lives in the form of the Holy Gospel.

The Rule and life of the Friars Minor is to observe the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, living in obedience, without anything of one’s own and in chastity. It is Jesus who is our master and our Gospel.

And after the Lord gave me brothers, no one taught me what should I do, but the Most High himself revealed to me that I should live according to the form of the holy Gospel.

Under the motto “Serve the Lord in poverty and humility”, on February 16 of this year the brothers Ángel, Antonio, Sergio and who writes received the ministry of the diaconate; wanting to synthesize our desire to continue living in fidelity the way of life of the Holy Gospel, in the poor, humble and crucified Christ.
